Thank you White Cliff Countryside Partnership for the hazel stems donated for us to use in our garden

White Cliff Countryside Partnership have been coppicing in the Spinney Woods in Aylesham.

This is a traditional method of woodland management, a practice of cutting trees and shrubs to ground level, promoting vigorous re-growth. By removing some of the canopy through coppicing, more light comes into the woodland, presenting opportunity for woodland flowers such as bluebells, and of course promoting more wildlife, such as butterflies.

The team at White Cliff Countryside Partnership had heard that we are developing our community garden and donated bundles of hazel stems for us to use in our garden.  Our gardener has already started to use these in the garden, building structures for sweetpeas, beans and peas and they will also be used in the garden as stakes for tomatoes,  new trees  and hedging.

Sandro, who works in the garden said:

“we are so grateful that the team of White Cliff Countryside Partnership thought of us, this is such a practical and also beautiful way to stake items in our garden”

Our Community Garden is being developed as part of the ASPIRE Project.
